Good point. In many cases, being an 'operational guru' is just a state of mind (usually the guru's own mind). Every industry has nuances that the people working in it understand and the rest of us don't. I work with a few of these gurus and my experience is that the more 'guru' they become, the more out of touch their ideas become. I know that's a gross generalisation, but that's been my experience.

Just a minor oversight. :) Fund Raising is a very large part of a private equiteer's role. Must have slipped my mind since we're not exactly in 'fund raising' mode, if you know what I mean.

I'd be realistic and add role 5) : 'fundraiser'. That does seem to suck a lot of time out of the average private equiteer's time!

"acknowledge your relative inexperience in the investee's industry"<br><br>This seems easier said than done at most firms, especially if they boast a robust stable of operational gurus with a combined 150+ years of experience. In many cases, younger firms/professionals do a better job on operationally intensive investments given their "eyes wide open" mentality.
